Tech Talk
John Lawton, Technical Product Manager at Intergas, talks about the background to the development of the Intergas System Filter.
When we were working on the development of our new system filter, we didn’t want to follow the market leaders with a plastic product, we wanted something that used our engineering skills in metal fabrication and, just like our boilers, would be ultra-efficient and extremely reliable. So how did we achieve this when we are not experts in system filter design? We partnered with a company that has been in the water treatment industry since 1964 and they listened to all of our exacting standards and that company was Fernox of course.
Fernox is a name I have been associated with ever since I installed my first gas boiler back in 1986, so for me the choice was easy, and the development process began. The Intergas System Filter is made entirely from forged brass, the main body is finished in thermosetting black polyester powder coating with nickel-plated connection union and flush and spigot valves, so not only is it industry leading in its efficiency, but it looks fantastic as well.
We supply the filter with a 22mm spigot valve to be used in the lower connection, as shown in the adjacent exploded diagram. The boiler return valve then acts as the top isolation valve to the filter, making it very simple to install with new or existing systems.
To comply with Part L of the building regulations, installers must not only chemically flush and then treat the heating system with an approved inhibitor, but must also install a magnetic filter. Our high-performance in-line system filter will help improve the energy efficiency and longevity of the central heating system, thanks to its Neodymium magnet and Hydronic Particle Separation Technology, and for installers of Intergas boilers there’s the additional benefit for their customers….an extra two* more years added to the boiler’s warranty.
*Installation must comply with our terms and conditions and Manufacturer’s Instructions it must also be installed by a Gas Safe-registered engineer.
