It`s a Marathon Double
We’re almost used to Intergas Managing Director Stephen Zouch running the Virgin Money London Marathon, but this time he was joined by UK Technical Service Manager David Stanley. Stephen was running for the Meningitis Research Foundation and David for Alzheimer’s Research UK. They were two of the amazing and intrepid group of competitors, all 40,255 of them, who crossed the finishing line in the biggest and hottest London Marathon to date. Temperatures reached 24⁰C and over £45m was raised, benefitting 2,000 charities.
Stephen, who had meningitis as a child and raised £2,382.00 this year for the Foundation, said: “I was lucky and now lead a full and healthy life. It’s a different story for many other families where the outcome can be tragic, leaving some people bereaved or facing a future with a lifelong disability. The Foundation brings together people and expertise to defeat meningitis wherever it exists, and I’m delighted to be supporting vital research into the eradication of the disease.”
There are currently 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia (an umbrella term to cover a group of symptoms that affects mental cognitive tasks such as memory and reasoning) and David’s mum is one of them. She has Alzheimer’s disease, the most common of form of dementia and he wanted to support the work of Alzheimer’s Research UK by raising awareness of and funds for more research into dementia and its causes. This was David’s first Marathon, and he raised £650 for the charity. Congratulations Stephen and David… and here’s to next year?
